We at The Vegetarians’ Kitchen simply love our potatoes. Boiled, steamed, fried – give it to us in any form and we will simply devour the spuds. Surely, we are not the only ones? Especially since potatoes were actually brought to India by the Portuguese in the early 17th century. Hmmm… so what is potato’s appeal globally?
Turns out, practically every culture has a potato dish they love – be it mashed potatoes, French fries or stuffed potatoes. Since we went completely Indian last week – due to Independence Day – we decided to go completely global this week and we chose the humble potato as our inspiration.
On August 17, we will bring you a taste of Ireland with our vegetarian recipe for Irish Potato Farls. They are a traditional Irish dish that’s pretty easy to make. All you need is potatoes (obviously), flour and some yummy butter!
On August 19, we travel to South Korea for a taste of Gamjajeon, a potato dish that’s naturally vegan and gluten free! It is a popular snack on the streets of Seoul and you should definitely give it a try.
On August 21, we will take a trip to Colombia and try out Papas Rellenas Colombianas aka Colombian Stuffed Potatoes. The dish is traditionally made with flour and egg, but we’ve made a version that retains the essence and looks of the original and yet, is vegetarian and gluten free.
In the meantime, do check out our spicy take on the Swedish Hasselback Potatoes.
Buckle up! Let’s travel the world with potatoes!
